The Living Grid is a new Academic Staff Room at LASALLE College of the Arts, designed within a large existing space shared with student learning and classroom programmes.
Rather than prescribing a single way of working, the space is designed around choice, offering a spectrum of environments for different needs and moments. Open collaborative areas and shared worktables sit alongside focus booths, intimate pods and larger meeting rooms, allowing staff to move freely between interaction, concentration and privacy throughout the day.
A grid-inspired framework connects these experiences. Slightly angled frames respond to the existing building structure, extending its language into the interior while emphasising the generous ceiling height. Linear flooring and framed thresholds continue this rhythm at ground level, creating a flexible foundation for varied configurations.
Natural timber tones, veneers and tactile finishes bring warmth and character, while a restrained material palette keeps the focus on people and the architecture.
